IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW
BY: ROGUE DOLL

Chapter One

She popped the CD in her player. Metallica filled her ears, James Hatfield's voice spurred her into action. She had to admit Machupijchu was an awesome sight as she looked up at her goal. The ruins that sat in front of her called to her. Set deep on what they called the Sacred Mountain, she could almost feel transported to the time that this place was at it grandeur. She allowed the mountain air to fill her lungs as she said a prayer of no disrespect to the gods that resided in this place. Without stopping she began to run up the steps, her arms propelling her forward; each one of Lars' staccato beats propelled her feet upward.

Once at the top, she couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. Screaming her victory at the top of lungs, not caring that tourist looked at her strangely. Eight years ago she had started this journey, just out of basic, fresh and green thinking that she could take on the world. She had made it only one fourth of the way, falling on her ass. Ever since then she came back.

Though, there was that one year…choosing love instead. <What a mistake> she shut her eyes trying to expel the thought. Where had he left her? Broken hearted and utterly alone- with the slamming of the door. <Wasn't that a song by Celine Dion> But you were history with the slamming of the door And I made myself so strong again somehow. And I never wasted any of my time on you since then. <No you haven't girl, he said he would call, he would write. Three letters.. only three letters.. >

She had worked up the courage to call him. To her surprise or maybe not, some girl answered the phone, "Hello Dash Faireborn's place"

"Can I speak to Dash?" She had asked. <I will not over react, a friend. Maybe?>

"He's tied up at the moment. Can I take a message?"

<Tied up my ass.> "No, no message. I'll catch up with him later."

She had hung up the phone. She never could work up the courage to call him back later. Figures he'd do something like that. <What were you thinking? You were special?> There were moments of gold And there were flashes of light There were things we'd never do again But then they'd always seemed right There were nights of endless pleasure.

Why couldn't she get that song out of her mind?

She heard her cell phone ring. "Sgt. Hart-Burnett here."

    "Good morning beautiful."

"I'm on vacation. Call someone else."

"There is no one else, only you." <Why does he always say that? He is having too much fun with this Job.>

"I'm in, only if you can find me." <Take that, he couldn't possibly…> She felt her hair whip as a helicopter became level with her vantage point. It was so Mission Impossible, so him. A blonde head stuck out saying "Tag your it."

"Oh its you Conrad, here I was hoping for Tom Cruise." She screamed over the roar of the helicopter, he just smiled at her.

    "You got me instead."

"Can I trade you in for Tom Cruise?" <This is Bad> she thought looking at all the pictures scattered on the floor. <How do I sneak into here?> "So, I have to break in to a castle that is neigh impenetrable, and rescue this guy that no one know what he looks like, who he is, or why the big wigs want him."

    "Basically." Duke told her.

She tossed the pictures on the floor, watching them fan out. "This seems like a job for the Army, not us."

"Should I remind you that technically you are the Army, Jaye." He said giving her a look.

"You would think, but right now they have their own problems, with Somalia." Getting up she walked to the door that opened to the gardens, looking out over the orchids, she turned her head to him. "You know if we were going to risk life and limb, they should tell us something."

He ran his fingers through his hair, he too was feeling the same frustrations as she was. "Evidently, it's only `need to know'. According to higher ups, we're ex-Joes we can perform the mission with out knowing."

"What are we super solders?" She asked.

"In their eyes, yes. Allie the government spent thousands of dollars on each one of us don't you think the ones of us that still work for them, they aren't going to get there money out of us the some how? " He shrugged

Lady Jaye threw her hands up, turning she faced Duke. "What is so important about this guy? A guy, I might add, that we don't even know who is."

"I don't know. All they told me was he was important." Duke said.

"Dammit, Duke. This isn't a walk in the park" as her hand swept the Intel pictures "We are going into a known Cobra hang out, that is armed to the teeth. News Flash they want us to fail."

Duke looked at her he knew all the odds himself, letting his face brighten in a grin that he knew got on her nerves "So are you in?"

"Hello!" Arms on hips, "This is suicide. What you are asking me to do, I very well might not come back. I'm suppose to be on vacation something I haven't seen since…"

"Well Jaye the two of us had been up against worst odds."

Jaye bared her teeth at him gritting out "I just don't think a Kevlar vest will protect us from this."

    "Me neither Jaye. Me neither."
